Questions for SME​

  • What is the recommended way for a hosted ServiceNow customer to export their data? Is there a ServiceNow-provided tool, an API export, or do customers need to go through ServiceNow support to request a database export?
  • Is the data stored in a relational database (e.g. SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL)? What format does the export come in?
  • Are there any known size, format, or licensing restrictions on what data can be exported?
  • Are attachments stored in the database or on disk/external storage? Do they need to be exported separately?
  • Is there anything time-sensitive customers should know - for example, does ServiceNow only retain data for a certain period after a license expires?
  • What is the recommended way to transfer the exported data to us - is there a preferred method for large files?
  • Are there any gotchas or common issues customers run into during the export process?

Sending the File​

Once you have your export, if it is too large to send as an email attachment, we can work with a OneDrive or Google Drive link, or we recommend Our Box Drive. Contact us if you need to arrange a more secure transfer method.
